Food for Thought
This past weekend I was in the Keys for a wedding and I saw the devastation that Irma had caused down there, but was in awe of the way everyone pulled together to get through it and to rebuild. I walked on the beach on Shabbat near where the wedding was to take place and was amazed at the beauty of the water, and the cleanliness of the area. It reminded me of something that Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote…
Dear Lord, Grant me the grace of wonder. Surprise me, amaze me, awe me in every crevice of the Universe.
As we move towards Shabbat, let us keep our eyes open to see the beauty, ears open to hear what’s all around us, and as we enter Shabbat, may we be able to see beyond the words of the prayers and allow ourselves to truly experience and feel the wonder that is Shabbat.
